Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?
We had donuts from a deli as a budget friendly addition to dessert.
What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We love horror movies, and so an October Friday the 13th was the perfect fit for us. We wanted everything to be elegant, with a spooky edge. We focused on bringing gloss blacks and black table linens.
The flowers were all a deep blood red. The casket ring box was a fun last addition! We loved the spooky lanterns for sunrise.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
Seeing each other for the first time at Glacier Point for our first look was the most memorable moment. We shared private vows there and it was so emotional.
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
We chose what our priorities were and spent on what we knew we would care about after the wedding day.
What was your biggest splurge?
Our biggest splurges were the rings, dress, photographer, and videographer.
What was your favorite details?
It’s hard to say one thing! It’s how it all came together. We took a rustic wedding venue in the forest and glammed and spooked it up.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Don’t leave everything for the day before. If you’re able to come to the venue at least two days before, you’ll have more time to unload, sort and finish things up so you’re not doing it the night before your wedding.
A special note from the photographer:
Oriana + Joseph share a love for all things a little creepy, so when they planned their Friday the 13th wedding they wanted to keep it elegant, but include a little mystery. They started their day with a private first look at the breathtaking Glacier Point in view of Half Dome. They watched the sun come up with their “sleepy hollow” themed lanterns and then shared their private vows under the brilliant blue Yosemite Sky.
They shared a picnic in the valley before heading back to Yosemite West, where their guests and family waited for them for the wedding ceremony. Beneath a luscious arch of day of the dead inspired roses, they said vows among their family and friends.
