DIY Wedding Lighting
Traditional wedding rental lights can be pricey, but thanks to our friends at Rent My Wedding, you don’t have to spend a fortune to bring this look together. Read on for their tips and see how simple it is to do yourself!

One thing that can really take a wedding vibe to the next level is custom lighting. It’s amazing how much of a difference a few simple uplights can make to transform a space. Sadly, it’s not always in every couple’s budget to hire a lighting designer or rent the equipment needed to pull off such a look.
Do you love colorful wedding reception lighting? Have you searched for lighting professionals to get this look, only to learn that the price is a definite deal-breaker? I am here to show you how wedding lighting is possible on any budget — just do it yourself!
You can use some or all of the following lighting techniques to add instant glam to your wedding reception.
1: Do-It-Yourself Uplighting
Uplighting is my favorite way to transform a banquet hall. It instantly changes the entire mood of the room and really gives the reception a “wow” factor. All you need to do is place the lights on the floor around the room. You can set the lights to any shade of any color. All it takes is a matter of minutes for setup – no experience required! The cost to setup your own wedding lighting for a 100 guest reception is about $152.

2: Do-It-Yourself Monogram Lighting
Monogram lighting is a great way to personalize your reception. You can put your names and wedding date in lights. Shine it behind the head table or cake table for a beautiful backdrop! If you designed a special monogram for your wedding invitations, you can even use that very same monogram for the lighting. To get this look, you just need to rent a monogram lighting package. A rental package will come with everything you need, so all you have to do is plug in the projector, set it on a table, and point at the wall. The cost to set up your own DIY monogram lighting is about $99.

3: Do-It-Yourself Cake Spotlight
Don’t forget to show your cake some love! A cake spotlight will make your wedding cake pop. It is super easy and affordable to get this look. All you do is turn it on, and set it on a table or mount to the ceiling. Aim the light towards the cake (or centerpieces!). The cost to set up your own DIY cake spotlight is about $25.

These are three of my favorite lighting techniques that anyone can do — no experience required! The best place to start is by doing a search for online wedding rentals. You’ll find easy and affordable options to have lighting products delivered right to your door. Set up everything yourself for the reception, then afterwards send everything back in the same box.
