What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

We included our dogs, Peyton and Dolly, twin golden retrievers. They were dressed in wedding attire. Peyton and Dolly are both therapy dogs we take on visits to the Lincoln Airport, local colleges and special events. They had a younger sister, Harper, who passed away on May 24, 2023. She died unexpectedly at the age of 5 from liver cancer. We even had a dress that matched Dolly’s to wear for the wedding. We honor her memory on this day as well as our parents who have passed. We had a memorial bench with our parents photos.

Our “guests” were ALF, Shrek, Oscar the Grouch, Goofy, Chucky, Manny the elephant and Harper the golden retriever!

Our cake topper said “You, Me & the Dogs”, with mini dog figurines and our dogs photos near it.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

The most memorable moment of our day was saying our wedding vows at the beautiful chapel in the hills of Tennessee.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

We had an elopement. We didn’t have a reception or attendants.

What was your biggest splurge?

Our wedding venue was our biggest splurge! We decided to get married at Chapel in the Hollow because we were looking for a dog friendly venue and wanted something small. We’ve visited the Smoky Mountains and thought it would be a beautiful place to get married.

What was your favorite detail?

The handkerchief given to the groom from the bride during the first look. It was to the groom from their dog Harper who passed away in 2023.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

It is your day to include things you love. Use social media for inspiration.
