Did you do any DIY Projects or create any handmade items for your wedding?

Our wedding was a labor of love for us. Therefore, we had many DIY projects to bring our vision to light. We made a flower wall ourselves. We made a welcome mirror sign. We also purchased and arranged all the decorations. This includes the tablescape, bar area, and favor table.

What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?

Our entire wedding was a personal aspect because we did everything ourselves. We had made personalized signs with our new last name in various areas around the venue. We even made a cross-word game for each guest to play during cocktail hour to see who knew us as a couple the best.

What is the most memorable moment of your day?

My most memorable moment of the day was 100% the ceremony. Our officiant Andrea composed a beautiful ceremony. The personal vows that my wife and I shared were so similar that it was a glorious moment of realization that we are truly the right people for each other.

What was the biggest thing you did to save money?

The biggest way we saved money was by being our own planners and using our own creative and organization abilities to create the event we wanted for ourselves and our family. We also leaned on our friends to assist with day of coordinating. This ensured everything went smoothly in the most cost-effective way.

What was your biggest splurge?

Our biggest expenses were decor and flowers. We had a very specific ambiance and feel we wanted to experience on that day. So, creating that required the biggest portion of our budget.

What was your favorite detail?

My favorite detail would have to be the view on the perfect fall day. My wife and I absolutely love the fall in New York!

The view from Malkita’s Mountain View Villa did not disappoint. All the fall foliage was absolutely beautiful and added immensely to the ambience of the entire day.

What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?

The best advice I can give is the same thought process I went by when planning. Always remember what you’re planning for. The wedding is the beginning of a marriage. Make sure you don’t lose the importance of the marriage in the idea of the wedding.

The people you choose to invite are to celebrate your marriage. They should be people who support whatever you want and need for marital success. Be sure to keep the day about you and your soon to be spouse – not just your guests!
