Wedding Budget Tip #21: Try the Wedding Cake Switcheroo

Wedding Budget Tip #21:

Cake switch! Display a small decorative cake but serve sheet cake to your guests.

As we’ve talked about previously, choosing a simple wedding cake design can save you money as super decorative and elaborate cake designs can cost you a pretty penny.

Cake prices often depend on how complicated the design is because of the time involved in creating it. The more ornate or intricate a design is, the longer it will likely take to produce, so the cost comes mostly from the designer’s time.

You can always go for a simple wedding cake design to bring the cost down, or if you have your heart set on a fancy cake, choose to go with a smaller decorative cake and pull a cake switcheroo.

Yes, a wedding cake switcheroo — it’s a thing.

Basically, you’d have your cake designer create a small cake for you and your newly joined spouse to cut at your reception, but then serve sheet cakes to your guests. Since no one would see the sheet cakes until they are sliced and served to your guests, fancy decorating is not necessary.

You won’t spend as much as you would on a large, ornate cake, and the end result will be just as tasty! Sounds like a sweet deal to me!

So tell us: would you consider pulling a wedding cake switcheroo?
