What creative or personal aspects did you include in your wedding?
We included several personal touches at our wedding! My mom did all our food and our wedding cake. Our signature drink was called, The Duke named after our dog. Cocktail napkins had “The Weylers” in gold foil. We also provided welcome bags that included Orville Redenbacher popcorn which is made in Indiana, sugar cream pie – a staple Indiana dessert, Wyler’s Lemonade (a play on our last name, Weyler), koozie with our names and wedding date, and a sugar cookie in the shape of Indiana with a gold heart where Crawfordsville is located. Again, we had so many personal touches, but these were a few of my favorites!
Did you do any DIY projects or create any handmade items for your weddings?
Our greenery arch, photo booth backdrop, quote backdrop, marquee “W” and all signage were DIY. The greenery arch we made from PVC pipe and faux greenery. The photo booth backdrop was also made from PVC pipe which we spray painted gold then used white blackout curtain and hung fresh greenery. The marquee “W” Andrew made from plywood, painted white then drilled holes for the lights which were outdoor lights. All signage was also DIY. I purchased a template off Etsy then created my own signs and printed at Office Depot. I would definitely recommend this for brides on a budget who want cohesive signage, but don’t want to break the bank!
What was the biggest thing you did to save money?
100% our food. We were lucky to have my mom cater our wedding! We also had a buffet style, so the additional staff wasn’t needed to serve guests.
What’s the best advice you have for planning your wedding now that you’re on the other side?
Plan as much as you can ahead of time and be prepared for any possible issues that might come up. Bring extras of everything (place settings, decorations, signage, jewelry). And put a lot of thought into your day-of timeline. Planning ahead will make the day stress free and people won’t be asking you questions all day!
What was your biggest splurge?
Biggest splurge would be decorations. We could’ve rented a lot of the candlesticks and vases, but I chose to purchase it all from antique stores to ensure it was the exact style I wanted.
What was your favorite detail?
Our greenery was my favorite detail of the whole day. The greenery was an element that pulled everything together and provided color to the overall theme. It turned out perfect and exactly what I had dreamed up.
What is the most memorable moment of your day?
The most memorable part of our day was taking photos in the field during our cocktail hour. It was fun to take in the day and be adventurous by taking photos in 2 feet of grass! It also gave Andrew and me a quiet moment to ourselves.
A lot of our elements were provided by friends and family, so that helped in cutting down the cost. Also, our reception venue didn’t have a lot of restrictions on catering, bartending or decorating, so we were also able to save money there.
