How did you meet?
Alex and I met on a dating app. He was the last person I vowed to meet from the app before deleting it. At the end of our first date we made plans for a second date. It was then we both knew we could delete the app.
What is your proposal story?
We both often talked about our future together and knew that eventually, we would make our way down the aisle. I asked that he not do anything too cheesy; to be honest I’m not one for grand gestures. So, last August, on a camping trip up to Big Sur, CA, we were on a hike through the redwoods when he casually asked “so do we make this thing official?” and pulled out a ring. It was perfect.

Tell us about your attire choices.
We both wanted to keep things simple. I love a good vintage look, so when I came across the BHLDN dress online I knew it was the one. I ordered it right then and there without doubting how it might fit. Luckily, it was the perfect fit and look. Alex was just as easygoing about his attire. Two months before our wedding we walked into Nordstrom where he tried on one suit and said, “yep, this is it.” After alterations, he was set.

What were your favorite parts of the day?
On the day of our wedding, the court accidentally booked multiple weddings during our appointment time. As a result, we had to wait inside a waiting room while the few family and friends who attended waited outside, where our ceremony would take place. Those thirty minutes ended up being our favorite because it was just the two of us joking around and making plans to go get fries after the ceremony (we were starving).
Our second favorite memory was celebrating with friends and family with a small, intimate, private dinner at our favorite brewery. We reserved a beautiful room with a fireplace, where twenty of us sat at a long table and enjoyed each other’s company and shared stories. We chose not to have that part of our wedding photographed because we wanted to live in the moment and not worry about posing or feeling like we were “on.” It was a memorable night filled with delicious food, drinks, and stories.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?
The best advice we could give is to focus on what feels authentic to you as a couple. Alex and I are very minimalist in our approach to life, we prefer quality over quantity and wanted a wedding that reflected that. Consider what is most valuable to you as a couple. We both would prefer to spend our money on getaways and our home, this guided our budget.
